Spring is in full bloom, and now is the perfect time to freshen up your home for the season! With spring cleaning and re-decorating in swing, Craft Montaz’s collection of hand painted ceramics and wood carvings will brighten up your home.
The tradition of spring cleaning dates back centuries and is a hallmark of several different cultures including Jewish, Iranian and Chinese. The traditions of the Persian New Year, which falls on the first day of spring, can be credited with the origins of spring cleaning. Even today, Iranians practice khaneh tekani (shaking the house) wherein everything in the house is thoroughly cleaned.
Once your home cleaning is done and dusted, a few small touches of Craft Montaz products will add flavor to your home decor. Our collection of Chulucanas pottery from Peru is ideal for spring decorations. Chulucanas pottery was developed by using techniques from pre-Inca times. These unique ceramic pieces are thrown and smoothed totally by hand.
This beautiful artwork is made by an artist from Peru, and is fully handcrafted in black and creamy white colors. This dove figurine is made in the town of Chulucanas in the Piura valley, famous for its popular Chulucana pottery. It is signed by the artist Rogger Crisanto. Peruvian ceramics have become an important part of the country’s national history because of its value, aesthetic worth, and the techniques used to craft the pieces. Ideal for the spring season, dove and bird figurines can freshen up your home.
Hand-carved from a single piece of Kisii soapstone by African artisans, this lover’s heart sculpture depicts the sweet love of a couple holding hands, their bodies forming a heart. Each piece has gone through multiple stages of sanding and waxing, giving the soapstone a satiny finish. Soapstone is a soft stone, making it easy to carve into many forms. Handle with care to avoid breakage. A lustrous black finish is hand-painted on it, making it suitable for any style of home decor.
Each sculpture is artfully hand-carved from a single piece of Kisii soapstone, found only in the hills of southwestern Kenya. Mining the soapstone from surface hills is a labor-intensive process, using little to no machinery. Laborers work with shovels, picks, axes and machetes to carve out large soapstone chucks, which are then carved into beautiful art.
Artist Wayan Rendah captures the dynamic energy of a gymnast in an elegant pose in this Indonesian wood carving. The fluid curves of her lithe, youthful body are portrayed in a figurative style, heightened by the warm glow of the suar wood. The polished grain enhances the cool line of a beautiful signature piece.
This decorative vase from Nicaragua is ideal for springtime with its bright colors, featuring an eye-catching flower and bird design.
Working with the fair trade organization Esperanza en Accion, men and women artisans in Nicaragua produce traditional pottery pieces that are world renowned. Artisans in San Juan de Oriente make the pottery using a manual kick wheel and finish the pieces using natural mineral oxides for the earthen colors. The fantastic flora and fauna of Nicaragua are the basis for stunning vase designs and novel wind instruments. The pottery is fired using a low-temperature technique so the vases are decorative as they do not hold water.
